Impact: A Tesla three-row SUV at competitive pricing would disrupt the premium family vehicle segment. With Tesla Cybercab production starting next month, this hints at a broader 2026-2027 product offensive from Musk's automaker.

Fresh details are pushing this story further into focus. Elon Musk is teasing what could be Tesla's most ambitious vehicle yet: a three-row, family-sized SUV that some fans have already dubbed the 'CyberSUV.' The CEO's latest hints came in response to a viral academic study titled 'Car Seats as Contraception' — which argues that standard car designs, unable to fit three child seats in the back row, effectively discourage large families. When a user suggested Tesla could trigger a 'baby boom' by building a three-row vehicle, Musk replied simply: 'Well, I guess we should solve this.' On the question of whether each row should have its own dedicated door pair, Musk offered an even more cryptic response: 'Noted.' The vehicle — if built — would likely be based on the Cybertruck's platform, featuring 48-volt architecture, steer-by-wire, and a stainless-steel aesthetic. It would compete directly with the Cadillac Escalade IQ and the Rivian R1S in the premium large-SUV market. Tesla is already winding down production of the Model S and Model X to make manufacturing headroom for its robotics and autonomy push. The Cybercab robotaxi begins mass production next month, and analysts believe the CyberSUV could follow in 2027. Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen has previously told fans to 'wait and see' on the subject — and concept renders of a larger SUV have reportedly been spotted in the background of recent Cybercab promotional videos. The picture now is one of rising pressure, wider consequences and very little room for error.
